PL Party Chief Urges End to Bolsonaro Family Feud Ahead of Convention

Valdemar Costa Neto, the national president of the Liberal Party (PL), has called for an end to internal conflicts between Michelle and Flávio Bolsonaro, stating they have not spoken since public accusations on social media. Costa Neto emphasized the need for unity within the party, especially as the national convention approaches on July 25th. This convention is a mandatory step for formalizing candidates for the upcoming elections. Flávio Bolsonaro, chosen by his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, to run for president, still lacks a vice-presidential candidate. Costa Neto mentioned that the party conventions might proceed before a final decision on the running mate is made. He previously suggested Senator Tereza Cristina for the vice-presidential role, but she has other aspirations. Regarding Daniella Marques, a former aide to Paulo Guedes who recently joined the Republicanos party, Costa Neto stated the need for a candidate with proven electoral appeal, saying, "Daniella Marques is an excellent person, but she needs to have votes." The dispute between Michelle and Flávio Bolsonaro escalated late last month when Michelle posted on social media alleging mistreatment and humiliation by Flávio. Flávio later apologized on social media, claiming no intent to offend. Michelle then shared a video about alleged parties, which Flávio publicly refuted, calling her "completely misinformed." Amidst this crisis, Michelle resigned from her position as president of PL Mulher, a decision finalized in a meeting with Costa Neto.
