Police Officer Arrested After Shooting Mechanic Four Times in Rio Grande do Sul

A 44-year-old police officer has been arrested in Sobradinho, Rio Grande do Sul, after allegedly assaulting and firing four shots at a 32-year-old mechanic. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 1st, near the officer's residence. The victim, identified as Wilian Wink, was reportedly shot after a dispute that began when the officer's partner called him about a noise disturbance at the mechanic's shop. Upon arriving at the scene, the officer reportedly got into an argument with the shop owner, Wilian Wink. The officer then allegedly fired his service weapon, with three bullets hitting Wink. Wink sustained two shots to the abdomen and one to the leg. He is currently in serious condition and receiving intensive care at a hospital in Cachoeira do Sul. Following the shooting, the officer turned himself in at a Military Brigade (BM) barracks and surrendered the weapon used. The incident is initially being investigated as bodily harm. The officer has been taken to the Military Police Prison in Porto Alegre and will be subject to military justice proceedings. The Brigada Militar stated that it is committed to impartiality and legality, does not condone conduct incompatible with its principles, and will rigorously investigate the case while ensuring the accused's due process.
