Police Rescue Woman, Daughter, and Newborn from Captivity in Franca, SP

Civil Police in Franca, São Paulo, rescued a woman, her teenage daughter, and the 15-day-old granddaughter on Tuesday, August 7th. The trio had been held captive since Monday, August 6th, in a house located in the Jardim Aeroporto III neighborhood. An anonymous tip led authorities to the victims, who had their cell phones confiscated upon being taken to the residence. According to Police Chief Gabriel Fernando, the victims are relatives of a woman currently under investigation for involvement in a homicide. This suspect is missing, and the case is being investigated by the General Investigations Delegation (DIG). Details of the investigation are under seal. Upon arrival at the scene, a man guarding the captives attempted to flee, broke his cell phone, and jumped over a wall, but was pursued and apprehended. He reportedly resisted arrest, requiring immobilization. Inside the house, police found the family in a small back room. The alleged security guard, whose face was covered with a black shirt to conceal his identity while providing food and water, claimed he was present to sell boots. He has prior convictions for drug trafficking. The owner of the house, who also has a police record, was identified but not found. The arrested man faces charges including kidnapping, cell phone theft, false identity, resistance, criminal association, and procedural fraud.
