Praia Grande Inaugurates New R$8.6 Million Renal Care Facility

Praia Grande, a coastal city in São Paulo, has inaugurated the new headquarters for Nefro-PG, a high-complexity unit specializing in chronic kidney disease care and renal replacement therapy. The municipal government reported an investment of R$8.6 million for the facility, located on Avenida Roberto de Almeida Vinhas in the Boqueirão neighborhood. This new center will serve patients requiring hemodialysis, as well as provide consultations, examinations, and other treatments.

Gradual patient transfers to the new address will commence on Monday, March 20th, to ensure continuity of care. Initial services will include outpatient appointments with specialists, followed by the relocation of dialysis equipment. Previously, Nefro-PG handled approximately 8.8 thousand monthly appointments; the expanded capacity is projected to reach 12.6 thousand monthly, encompassing consultations, exams, treatments, and procedures. The unit serves residents of Praia Grande and patients from neighboring municipalities referred through the State of São Paulo's computerized regulation system (SIRESP), with hemodialysis services for the entire Baixada Santista region regulated by the state government.

A key feature of the new facility is its advanced dual-pass reverse osmosis water treatment system, designed to purify water for hemodialysis to a standard comparable to that used for injectable medications. The 1,368-square-meter building spans three climate-controlled floors, incorporates photovoltaic panels for solar energy, and includes accessible facilities such as a hospital elevator, ramps, and adapted restrooms. The ground floor houses reception, consultation rooms, and procedure areas. The second floor is dedicated to hemodialysis sessions and waiting areas, while the third floor contains administrative offices. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mayor Alberto Mourão and other local officials.
