Professor Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem Appointed New Vice-Chancellor of CUET

Professor Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem, from the Mechanical Engineering department at the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor. The Ministry of Education's Secondary and Higher Education Division issued a notification regarding this appointment on Monday. The notification, signed by Joint Secretary Kazi Nurul Islam, stated that Professor Sayem's appointment was made under Section 10 (1) of the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology Act, 2003, with the approval of the President and Chancellor of the university. Professor Sayem will serve as Vice-Chancellor for a term of four years from his joining date or until his retirement, whichever comes first. He will receive a salary and allowances equivalent to his original position, along with other benefits as per regulations. As the chief executive officer of the university, he is required to reside on campus full-time. The President and Chancellor reserve the right to revoke the appointment at any time. This appointment follows the tenure of Professor Mahmud Abdul Motin Bhuiyan, former head of the Nuclear Engineering department and professor in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department, who was appointed Vice-Chancellor on October 30, 2024. Professor Sayem's appointment comes approximately 1 year and 9 months after Professor Bhuiyan began his term.
