PSOL-Rede Federation Confirms Candidates for 2026 Elections in Minas Gerais

The PSOL-Rede federation held its state convention in Belo Horizonte on Sunday, May 26th, to formalize candidacies for the 2026 elections in Minas Gerais. Áurea Carolina was officially nominated for the Senate. The federation also confirmed its slates for state and federal deputy positions, including incumbent federal deputies Duda Salabert and Célia Xakriabá. The convention addressed key issues such as combating violence against women, the environmental impacts of mining, and the preservation of traditional communities and cultural diversity. Indigenous music performances and a tribute to Marielle Franco were featured. Artemisa Xakriabá, representing Célia Xakriabá, spoke on indigenous rights and environmental protection, followed by a speech from Duda Salabert. Áurea Carolina stated her intention to champion public policies for Black communities, people with disabilities, marginalized populations, and women, while also criticizing the far-right. The federation has not yet officially decided on its endorsement for the Minas Gerais governorship, but indicated a preference for supporting Patrus Ananias (PT), with further discussions planned. The deadline for candidate registration with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) is August 15th, with the official campaign beginning the following day. Brazilians will vote on October 4th for president, governor, senators, federal deputies, and state deputies. Áurea Carolina, a former councilwoman and federal deputy, has focused on human rights, anti-racism, and gender equality. Duda Salabert, a professor and environmentalist, is known for her work in education, environmental protection, and LGBTQIA+ rights. Célia Xakriabá, an indigenous activist and professor, is the first indigenous woman elected as a federal deputy from Minas Gerais, advocating for indigenous rights and environmental preservation.
