PT Party Selects Fábio Trad as Gubernatorial Candidate for Mato Grosso do Sul

The Brasil da Esperança Federation, comprising the PT, PV, and PCdoB parties, has officially nominated Fábio Trad, a member of the PT party, as its candidate for the governorship of Mato Grosso do Sul. The decision was formalized during a convention held on Sunday, May 26th, in Campo Grande. Trad, an attorney, professor, and former federal deputy, will be making his first bid for the governor's office. The convention also approved a slate of other candidates, including Dona Gilda for vice-governor, Vander Loubet for the Senate, and numerous candidates for federal and state deputy positions across the PT, PV, and PCdoB parties. Fábio Trad outlined his vision for the state, emphasizing a shift towards a 21st-century growth model focused on technology, research, innovation, and partnerships with educational institutions to add value to primary products and retain young talent within Mato Grosso do Sul. The election calendar dictates that conventions must conclude by August 5th, with candidate registrations due by August 15th, and the official campaign commencing the following day. Brazilians will vote for president, governor, senators, federal deputies, and state deputies on October 4th. Trad, 56, has a political background that includes serving as a city councilor in Campo Grande and three consecutive terms as a federal deputy from 2011 to 2023, during which he was involved in legislative committees and reforms, including the Civil Procedure Code. Vander Loubet, 62, a founding member of the PT in Mato Grosso do Sul, has served multiple terms as a federal deputy since 2002 and held state government secretarial positions earlier in his career. Loubet has faced legal scrutiny, including a conviction in the first instance related to a port concession contract, though a Lava Jato operation denunciation was ultimately deemed unfounded by the Supreme Federal Court.
