Renowned Pediatrician Dr. Alberto Lima de Souza Dies at 81 in Fortaleza

Dr. Alberto Lima de Souza, a distinguished pediatrician and founder of the Clínica Pediátrica Alberto Lima in Fortaleza, passed away on Thursday, September 9th, at the age of 81. The clinic confirmed his death, though the cause was not disclosed. Born in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, in 1944, Dr. Lima pursued his medical studies at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. He dedicated over five decades of his career to pediatrics in Ceará, where he spent most of his life and built his professional legacy. He was a significant figure at the Hospital Geral de Fortaleza (HGF) for over two decades, leading its Pediatric Ward, which is now named in his honor. Dr. Lima also played a key role in establishing the Pediatric Medical Residency program at HGF and was a member of the Cearense Academy of Medicine. In 1984, he established his private pediatric clinic in Fortaleza. The clinic remembered him not just as a physician but as a mentor who instilled a philosophy of care characterized by attentive listening, respect, and affection for children and their families. In 2012, Dr. Lima was honored with the Sereia de Ouro Trophy, an award recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to science, arts, business, and public service. At the time, the award highlighted his dedication to saving and caring for children's lives and health, noting his artistic sensibility that complemented his medical practice. His wake was scheduled from Thursday evening to Friday morning, with a funeral mass and burial to follow at the Parque da Paz Cemetery.
