Rio Schoolgirl List of Sexual Categories Sparks Investigation

A list categorizing 65 female students from the 9th grade at Colégio Cruzeiro in Rio de Janeiro with sexual descriptions has led to a police investigation. One student discovered the offensive list when she searched her full name online, an experience her mother described as "disbelief" and "anger." The 14-year-old victim, along with six other students, provided testimony to the Child and Adolescent Victim's Police Station (Dcav). The mother emphasized the immense harm caused, noting that while her daughter is coping with psychological support, other victims are experiencing severe distress, including reluctance to attend school. She highlighted the amplified destructive reach of such online incidents due to social media, contrasting it with past forms of harassment. The mother is advocating for accountability for those who created and disseminated the list, urging parental responsibility in monitoring children's online activities. The Dcav is investigating potential crimes including insult, defamation, and subjecting a minor to vexation and embarrassment, with the possibility of other charges emerging. Police are also examining the increasing trend of such online sharing among minors, with victims becoming more vulnerable due to their age and gender. The school has filed a police report, demanded the list's removal from the platform, and is providing support to affected students and families, while also conducting an internal investigation into the matter. The Colégio Cruzeiro stated that student well-being and safety are paramount and that they regularly conduct awareness campaigns on digital responsibility.
