São Paulo Center Intersection Closed for 20 Days for Urban Renovation

The intersection of Paula Sousa and Cantareira streets in downtown São Paulo will be closed starting Saturday, February 4th, for urban requalification works. The Companhia de Engenharia de Tráfego (CET) estimates the closure will last approximately 20 days. This intervention, carried out by SP Urbanismo, is part of the "Ruas Temáticas" project, aimed at restoring and modernizing historic commercial streets in the city. During the construction period, vehicle circulation in the area will be altered. Paula Sousa Street will become two-way between Plínio Ramos and Cantareira streets, and between Cantareira Street and Avenida do Estado. Cantareira Street will also operate with two-way traffic between Mauá and Paula Sousa streets, and between Miguel Carlos and Paula Sousa streets. Drivers heading on Cantareira Street are advised to use São Caetano Street as a detour, access Avenida do Estado, turn onto the second lane of Avenida Mercúrio, and then return to Cantareira Street. Those on Paula Sousa Street should proceed via Barão de Duprat Street, then Miguel Carlos Street, until they reach Cantareira Street again. Pedestrian access will be maintained alongside the construction, and traffic agents will monitor the area to guide drivers and mitigate traffic impacts. Motorists are urged to obey signage and use alternative routes whenever possible to avoid the closed section.
