Son Becomes Firefighter Inspired by Slain Police Officer Father in Macapá

Civil Police Officer Manoel Raimundo Leite dos Santos, 62, was tragically murdered on Sunday, May 26th, while on duty in Macapá, Amapá. He was off-duty and spending time with his 8-year-old son when the incident occurred in the Araxá neighborhood. Officer Santos had dedicated nearly 40 years to the Civil Police, primarily serving in Calçoene, and was known for his simplicity, humility, and dedication. He was a father of four and also active in local football and rural life. His son, Roberto Santos, who is now a colonel in the Fire Department, stated that his father's exemplary conduct, particularly his peaceful resolution of incidents through dialogue, inspired him to pursue a career in public service. Roberto recalled his father's consistent presence and engagement in community football tournaments, which served as a way for him to connect with people. Beyond his police work, Officer Santos managed a farm where he produced artisanal cheese and raised livestock, often sharing his products with the community. The delegate of Calçoene, Michael Duarte, expressed deep respect for Santos, calling him an integral part of the city's identity, and proposed naming the new police station after him. Officer Santos was buried on Tuesday, May 28th, in Calçoene, amidst widespread grief and tributes from family, friends, and the local community.
