Street vendor fatally stabbed after attacking waiter in São Paulo bar

A street vendor, identified as Luiz Felipe Andreoni Laviola, was fatally stabbed in Mongaguá, on the coast of São Paulo, Brazil, after attacking a waiter inside a bar. The incident occurred early Sunday morning, May 26. Surveillance footage captured the vendor entering the establishment and advancing on the waiter with a knife. The waiter sustained stab wounds but managed to subdue the assailant. Subsequently, a bartender intervened, disarmed the vendor, and stabbed him. Emergency services and municipal guards responded to the scene and pronounced the vendor dead. Police have classified the event as homicide, bodily injury, and self-defense. Investigators are examining the circumstances, with initial findings suggesting the bartender acted in legitimate defense of himself and his colleague. The bartender's defense attorney, Sthefanny Martins de Paula, stated that the vendor had a history of aggressive behavior at the establishment and had previously been asked to leave due to intoxication and altercations with patrons. The attorney emphasized that the bartender acted to protect his coworker and then himself when the vendor continued his assault with the knife. The defense also noted that the vendor had prior incidents requiring authorities' intervention.
