Student Murdered, Wildlife Trafficking Operation, Fatal Highway Crash Reported

A medical student, Letícia de Morais Vasconcelos Rodrigues, was found murdered with over 100 stab wounds in her Barbacena apartment. Her boyfriend, Gustavo Dutra Lima, 25, is the primary suspect and has been arrested preventatively after fleeing to Bom Jardim de Minas. Rodrigues, a mother of two, was reportedly subjected to controlling behavior and excessive jealousy by Lima, who has a history of similar conduct. The investigation is ongoing as a femicide and is under judicial seal. In a separate incident, a large-scale operation targeting wildlife trafficking, dubbed 'Libertas,' resulted in the seizure of over 150 wild birds across several cities in the Zona da Mata region, including Juiz de Fora, Rio Novo, Santos Dumont, and Santa Bárbara do Tugúrio. Seven individuals were arrested, and six others were brought in for questioning. Among the confiscated species were bluebirds, curiós (classified as endangered in Minas Gerais), and trinca-ferros. The operation involved both Civil and Military Police forces. Tragically, a 46-year-old driver from Leopoldina died in a multi-vehicle collision on BR-267 in Maripá de Minas. The victim was en route to work in Juiz de Fora when his pickup truck collided head-on with a box truck during an attempted overtaking maneuver. The accident also involved another vehicle and a 30-meter trailer, bringing the total to two pickup trucks, a box truck, and the trailer.
