Suspect Arrested in Mogi Mirim for Fatal Ambush During Cell Phone Sale

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Mogi Mirim, São Paulo, for the fatal shooting of merchant José Donizete da Silva Júnior. The incident occurred on July 12 when the victim, owner of a cell phone store in Espírito Santo do Pinhal, was attempting to deliver a high-value cell phone, worth R$ 7.5 thousand, which he had negotiated with a supposed buyer via social media. Silva Júnior, 26, was in his car with his fiancée in the Parque das Laranjeiras neighborhood when the suspect approached. As the victim attempted to flee, the assailant fired shots, striking Silva Júnior in the chest. The vehicle veered off a roadside embankment, and despite being rescued, the merchant died at the scene. His fiancée sustained minor injuries and was reportedly in shock. Police identified the suspect through the phone number used for communication and obtained temporary arrest and search warrants. During his apprehension, the suspect attempted to conceal the cell phone used in the crime, but officers recovered it along with packaging from other phones at his residence. The suspect has prior police records, including an arrest for theft in Jaguariúna, and is believed to be involved in similar cell phone theft schemes. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if accomplices were involved and if there were other motives behind the murder.
