Taubaté City Hall Seeks New Manager for University Hospital

Taubaté City Hall has published a tender to select a new social organization to manage the Municipal University Hospital of Taubaté (HMUT). This decision follows the administration's announcement that it will not renew its contract with the current manager, Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Chavantes, whose contract expires on July 31st. The new management contract, estimated at R$ 11 million per month, will initially last for 12 months with the possibility of extension. The bids are scheduled to be opened on September 2nd at 9 AM. The chosen organization will be responsible for managing the hospital's health services, which include medium and high-complexity care for users of the Unified Health System (SUS), encompassing both hospital and outpatient services. The city hall assures that this transition is designed to ensure continuity of care for the public without interruption. The Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Chavantes, which took over hospital management in 2024, has been officially notified and has begun communicating the contract's end to its staff and suppliers. The organization expressed its interest in continuing management and criticized the city's decision. Previously, the city hall and Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Chavantes were involved in a legal dispute, with the municipality withholding funds due to alleged unmet contractual goals, a move contested by the organization. Prior attempts by the city hall to hire a new manager through public calls were either suspended or modified.
