Teenager Dies After 50-Meter Cliff Fall While Flying Kite in Marília

Kauê da Silva Joca, a 16-year-old teenager, has died from injuries sustained in a fall from a cliff approximately 50 meters high. The incident occurred on July 7th in Marília, São Paulo, while Kauê was flying a kite with a friend in a difficult-to-access area of the Vila Barros neighborhood. He slipped and fell into a deep section of the slope, where houses are situated below street level. Upon arrival, rescue teams found Kauê conscious but with multiple leg fractures and bleeding. Dense vegetation reportedly cushioned his fall but also complicated the two-hour rescue operation. Kauê was admitted to the Hospital das Clínicas (HC) of the Faculdade de Medicina de Marília (Famema) on the same night of the accident. He remained in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 12 days before succumbing to his injuries on Sunday night, August 19th. The Civil Police have registered the case as a suspicious death, and his body has been sent to the Instituto Médico Legal (IML) for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
