Teenager Injured as Cell Phone Explodes in Goiás, Brazil

A 17-year-old boy sustained a burned finger when his cell phone exploded while he was playing on his computer in Porangatu, Goiás, Brazil, on Saturday, November 11th. The incident occurred when the boy noticed his phone, which was on his lap, overheating and emitting smoke. He quickly threw the device onto a sofa, which then exploded, damaging the furniture. The boy's mother, Ana Carla Silva Neves, a dentist, shared a video of the aftermath, showing the destroyed phone and sofa. She stated that her son only burned his finger while attempting to remove the burning phone from the sofa. Neves mentioned she purchased the phone new approximately two years ago and had never had any parts replaced. She believes the incident was an isolated event, not indicative of a chronic brand issue, as the phone charged fully in about 30 minutes and had never previously overheated. The family exclusively used the original factory charger. Neves posted the video to warn others about the risks associated with charging phones or leaving them too close to oneself during charging, recounting how her son used to sleep with his phone charging on his bed. Fortunately, the teenager was unharmed and did not require hospitalization.
