Teenager Suspected of Murder in Hotel to Undergo Age Verification Exam

A teenager suspected of murdering 33-year-old Washington Rodrigo in a hotel in João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil, will undergo further examinations to confirm his age. The suspect, whose identity remains unconfirmed, presented himself to the Civil Police in Rio Grande do Norte on Tuesday, October 28th, after the crime occurred on Friday, October 24th. Although documents indicate he is 17 years old, police are conducting supplementary age estimation tests for additional evidence, according to delegate Diego García. Following these exams, the suspect will be transferred to the juvenile wing of the Civil Police jail in João Pessoa to await a custody hearing with the local juvenile prosecutor's office. The investigation suggests the encounter began on a dating site, and the suspect claims he felt intimidated by Rodrigo, who allegedly took intimate photos. The suspect reportedly used an airsoft replica gun to force Rodrigo to reveal his phone password, fearing his relationship would be exposed. He stated his intention was only to incapacitate Rodrigo using a hair dryer cord, not to kill him. After the incident, the teenager allegedly attempted to flee in Rodrigo's car but was unsuccessful and left the hotel on foot, reportedly posting on social media afterward as if nothing had happened. Police found no drugs in the hotel room and seized the airsoft pistol and handcuffs, which were crucial to the investigation. Records indicate the teenager has at least 17 prior incident reports in Rio Grande do Norte, including offenses such as qualified theft, extortion, stalking, threats, and domestic violence, and has previously been placed in a juvenile detention facility.
