Thieves Target Armored Car, Flee After Driver Honks Horn

A video circulating on social media captured a brazen daylight robbery attempt in São Paulo's Morumbi neighborhood on Saturday, November 25th. The footage shows at least four assailants on two motorcycles attempting to rob a driver amidst traffic. When a nearby driver began honking their horn persistently, one of the criminals approached the victim's armored vehicle and pointed a firearm at the window. Upon realizing the car was armored, the assailant abandoned the attempt, rejoined his accomplice on a motorcycle, and fled the scene. The video also revealed that one of the motorcycles used by the criminals lacked an identification plate.

Hours later, a police officer off-duty intervened in a separate robbery near the Morumbi Shopping Center, where two armed individuals were robbing two families. Authorities suspect these might be the same criminals from the viral video, as preliminary investigations suggest they used two motorcycles with altered plates. During this second incident, the assailants demanded cell phones, rings, and other valuables, along with device passwords. The off-duty officer identified himself and ordered the robbers to surrender. When one assailant aimed his weapon at the officer, the policeman fired five shots in self-defense. The suspects then abandoned their motorcycles and escaped on foot into the shopping center. The motorcycles were seized for forensic examination, and the police are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
