Three Arrested After Million-Dollar Jewel Heist and Hostage Situation in Greater Belo Horizonte

Three individuals have been arrested in connection with a million-dollar robbery and hostage situation that occurred on Wednesday, November 15th, in Igarapé, part of the Greater Belo Horizonte metropolitan area. The victims, a 62-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman, were returning home from their family business when they were ambushed by two armed men, with a third accomplice waiting in the getaway car. The couple was forced into their home, where their hands were bound with plastic restraints and their legs with ropes. The assailants searched the residence for valuables, specifically inquiring about weapons, and stole approximately R$ 500,000 in jewelry and other items, along with R$ 11,000 in cash and R$ 1,100 from the man's wallet. The perpetrators also attempted to force the male victim to make bank transfers via Pix, but the victim's distress prevented the completion of these transactions. The suspects fled with the stolen goods after abandoning the attempted digital transfers. Police identified the getaway vehicle through security camera footage, leading them to the car's owner, who had rented it to a 30-year-old woman. Using GPS tracking data, authorities located the vehicle at a house in Contagem. Inside the residence, police recovered a suitcase containing 18 pairs of glasses, a projector, and a cell phone, all identified by the victim as stolen property, along with a replica firearm. The woman confessed to her involvement in dividing the proceeds and identified one accomplice. A search in Contagem led to the apprehension of another suspect, from whom a luxury watch, recognized by the victim, was recovered. The woman's husband was also arrested; initially denying involvement, he was found to possess a video on his phone showing stolen watches, with him expressing a desire to keep one. The cell phones of all three suspects were seized for further investigation into their roles and the division of assets. The suspects were taken to the Contagem Plantão Police Station, and the vehicle was impounded. A sweatshirt found in the car matched the description of one worn by an assailant.
