Authorities in Uberlândia have arrested a woman, identified by the initials M. A. L. R., who was wanted for her alleged involvement in a homicide in Primavera do Leste, Mato Grosso. The suspect is accused of participating in the murder of a 39-year-old woman in August 2020, including the commission of the crime, concealment of the body, and obstruction of justice. The victim was reportedly lured to a vehicle and killed, with her body later found in a wooded area. The arrest was a preventive measure ordered by the 1st Criminal Court of Primavera do Leste. In a separate legal development, the Labor Court in Uberlândia has provisionally suspended a 30% deduction from a cancer patient's pension. The court cited the elderly woman's advanced age and her diagnosis of esophageal cancer as reasons for the decision. The retiree had appealed the monthly deduction of R$ 6,754.30, arguing that the law aims to ensure minimal resources for debtors. The judge agreed that her health and age justified halting the garnishment, ordering the National Social Security Institute (INSS) to cease the monthly retention. Meanwhile, Ladislene Gomes Mota, a 41-year-old cleaner with five postgraduate degrees, has been selected to represent João Pinheiro in the Miss Brasil Real 2026 pageant's Senior category for women over 40. Mota, who is Black and of quilombola descent, has spoken about overcoming self-doubt fueled by past beauty standards that marginalized Black women. She will compete in the finals from October 28-31 in Porto Seguro, Bahia, asserting that beauty transcends a single color, feature, or standard.
