ULab Celebrates Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam with Monsoon Tributes

The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULab) recently hosted a cultural event titled 'Rabindra-Nazrul Smaran o Barsha Bandana 1433' (Remembering Rabindranath-Nazrul and Praising the Monsoon). Organized by the Department of Bengali Language and Literature, the event took place at the university's permanent campus in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. The ceremony featured literature, music, recitation, and dance, celebrating the works of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, alongside tributes to the monsoon season. Professor Shamsad Mortuza, the Vice-Chancellor of ULab, was the chief guest. He spoke about the enduring relevance of Tagore and Nazrul's literary contributions and humanistic philosophies. Dr. Ahmed Shamim, Academic Program Coordinator at Cornell University's Language Research Center in the USA, was the main discussant. He shared his personal connection to Tagore and Nazrul in his presentation, 'My Rabindranath and My Nazrul.' Professor Shameem Reza, Advisor of the Bengali Language and Literature Department, presided over the event. He highlighted that such programs foster creativity, cultural engagement, and the development of humanistic values among students. A notable performance was given by renowned Nazrul Sangeet artist Ferdous Ara. Students also participated by reciting poems, performing solo and group songs, and presenting dances. Various cultural performances centered around the theme of the monsoon added to the vibrancy of the event, which was attended by faculty, students, officials, staff, and cultural enthusiasts.
