Vila Velha Home Struck by Three Cars in One Month; Previously Damaged by Helicopter Crash

A resident in Vila Velha, Espírito Santo, is experiencing significant distress after her home's wall was impacted by three separate car crashes within a single month. The property, situated on a curve along the ES-288 highway, has a history of damage from previous incidents, including a fatal helicopter crash in January 2021. The most recent series of accidents began on June 6th, when an out-of-control vehicle crashed through the home's gate and destroyed its electrical meter, leaving the residence without power. The 66-year-old retiree, Rosângela Maria Marques, was forced to quit her job as a saleswoman due to the constant threat and the inability to secure her home. A week after the first incident, another vehicle struck a utility pole on the property's sidewalk, colliding with the wall and requiring medical attention for one individual. The latest crash occurred on Sunday, July 5th. Following this, Ms. Marques began constructing a barricade to prevent further collisions, noting that drivers appear to approach the curve at high speeds. While her insurance covered some initial damages, the recurring nature of the accidents means she is now solely responsible for repair costs, which she describes as substantial and a significant risk to her life. The Espírito Santo Department of Buildings and Highways (DER-ES) has been contacted regarding potential safety measures but has not yet responded. The home also sustained damage from a helicopter crash on January 6, 2021, which killed two people. The aircraft reportedly hit a palm tree on the property before crashing nearby. Ms. Marques stated that she received no compensation for the damage caused by the helicopter incident, despite attempts to locate the owner.
