Water Park Employee Dies Five Days After Electrical Shock at Work

Wendell Gabriel Oliveira de Jesus, an employee at Valparaíso Adventure Park in Paço do Lumiar, near São Luís, Brazil, has died five days after suffering a severe electrical shock while on duty. The incident occurred on July 23rd when de Jesus, working as a pool attendant, was moving an extension cord in a dry area of the park. Park officials stated that nearby employees immediately cut the power and initiated first aid, subsequently transporting him to the UPA do Maiobão for urgent care. He was later transferred to Hospital da Ilha in São Luís on July 24th, where he remained in critical condition. Despite intensive medical efforts, his death was confirmed on Tuesday, July 28th, following brain death. The announcement of his passing was made by the park via social media. On the morning of his death, family, friends, and colleagues held a protest outside the park, demanding answers about the accident and requesting his transfer to a private hospital. Valparaíso Adventure Park expressed deep regret over de Jesus's death, stating they will cooperate fully with the investigation into the accident's circumstances. The park also announced the suspension of activities on Wednesday, July 29th, in his memory and pledged continued support to his family during their period of mourning. The company confirmed it had filed a Work Accident Communication (CAT) with the INSS.
