Wildfires are intensely impacting North America and Europe this summer, exacerbated by record heatwaves and drought conditions linked to climate change. However, new fires have emerged in Greece following a period of relative calm. Gale-force winds initially fueled a fire near Porto Germeno, which then spread to Veniza and a military firing range, prompting efforts to protect the coastal town of Megara, home to approximately 30,000 residents. In central Spain, wildfires that consumed vast areas are largely under control, though some areas are experiencing reignitions. A forest blaze in Caceres prompted the evacuation of about 800 people, who were later allowed to return but remained confined to their homes. In the United States, a fast-moving wildfire in Spokane, Washington, forced thousands to evacuate, leading Governor Bob Ferguson to declare a state of emergency. Washington is experiencing its fourth consecutive year of drought, with over 200,000 acres burning across the state.
