Witness's Eccentric Testimony Disrupts Cow Theft Trial

A cow theft trial took an unusual turn when a witness, Sri Kamalakanta Chakraborty, appeared in court. Kamalakanta, who was present as a witness and not a defendant, arrived in a relaxed mood, vaping and listening to music on his AirPods. The case was filed by Prasanna Goyalini, who accused someone of stealing her cow. When asked to take an oath, Kamalakanta questioned the fairness of the standard oath, suggesting it was insufficient. The prosecution's lawyer became agitated by Kamalakanta's unconventional behavior and modern slang, urging him to follow the law. Kamalakanta, in turn, commented on the lawyer's attire and implied they were a gold digger, leading the lawyer to seek the judge's protection. The judge, however, advised the lawyer to manage their own witness. The court then proceeded with a simple affirmation, which Kamalakanta accepted. During his testimony, Kamalakanta provided evasive and humorous answers to the lawyer's questions about his name, parentage, caste, and age, often using modern internet slang and challenging the lawyer's assumptions. He claimed to have no fixed address and described himself as a traveler. When asked about his profession, he initially deflected, but when pressed, suggested 'vagabond' after a dispute over whether he was a beggar. He denied knowing Prasanna Goyalini, but then recognized her milk products as being watered down and a scam. Regarding the cow theft, Kamalakanta claimed he hadn't witnessed it directly, only in his childhood, and humorously suggested the thief missed an opportunity for a viral vlog. When asked if he recognized the stolen cow, he became evasive, prompting the judge to show him a cow outside the courtroom. Kamalakanta's response to identifying the cow, and his subsequent remarks about the judge's black cap, led the judge to impose a fine of 5,000 rupees for wasting time. Kamalakanta cheekily asked who would collect the fine and requested the jail time be extended to two months to avoid worrying about food. Amused, the judge waived the fine and dismissed him, allowing Kamalakanta to leave in a relaxed state, vaping.
