Woman, 76, Dies in Head-On Collision on RR-205 Highway in Roraima

Júlia Pessoa Ferreira, a 76-year-old woman and mother of six with 12 grandchildren, was among the victims of a fatal head-on collision on the RR-205 highway in Alto Alegre, Roraima. Originally from Pará, she was visiting family in Roraima for a period. Ferreira was a passenger in a Fiat Cronos, driven by her 45-year-old daughter, which collided with a Ford Ka. Her daughter sustained injuries and was hospitalized, along with two of Ferreira's grandchildren, a 14-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, who were also in the Fiat Cronos. The accident occurred around 10:30 AM on Monday, January 13th, on the road connecting Boa Vista to Alto Alegre. The driver of the Ford Ka, 66-year-old farmer Antônio Souza Santos, also died at the scene, trapped in the wreckage. His wife, 60, and sister-in-law, Olinda de Souza Cardoso, 73, were also in the Ford Ka; Cardoso died later in the hospital. A 41-year-old social worker niece and a 9-year-old grandson were also traveling in the Ford Ka. Ferreira was reportedly thrown from her vehicle after the impact. Her daughter and granddaughter remain hospitalized at the General Hospital of Roraima, while the grandson is at the Children's Hospital Santo Antônio. Ferreira, described as a joyful person who enjoyed traveling, was originally from Maranhão but had lived in Pará for years, frequently visiting her children and siblings in Boa Vista.
