Woman Arrested After Partner Found Dead in Carmo da Mata Home

A man, identified only as Guilherme, was discovered deceased inside his residence in the Estrela settlement of Carmo da Mata on Thursday, November 23rd. His partner, Suelen, aged 37, was apprehended at the scene on suspicion of homicide. The incident was initially reported to the Military Police by municipal social assistance workers who received information about a severely injured, stabbed individual. Upon arrival, officers were met by Suelen, who stated that a dispute with Guilherme had escalated between 1 AM and 3 AM that morning. She claimed the argument began when Guilherme insisted she leave the house in the middle of the night to address a water shortage issue. According to her statement, Guilherme then attempted to attack her with a machete, prompting her to grab a knife and stab him in the left leg. She reported that he fell and subsequently had difficulty walking, after which she helped him to the bed where they remained until morning. By dawn, Suelen noticed he was unresponsive, only able to respond by squeezing her hand. During the police investigation of the home, Guilherme was found on the bed with signs of death, particularly around the neck, raising questions about the time of death. A medical professional from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) confirmed the fatality. Evidence of the residence's living room having been cleaned was also noted by the authorities. Suelen was taken for medical attention before being handed over to the Civil Police, who are continuing the investigation into the motive for the alleged crime. Forensic experts from the Civil Police conducted their examination at the property, and the body was subsequently released to a funeral home.
