Woman Arrested for Arson at Mother-in-Law's Home, Dog Dies

A 35-year-old woman has been arrested and her detention confirmed in Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais, Brazil, for allegedly setting fire to her mother-in-law's house, resulting in the death of the family dog. The Civil Police have opened an investigation into the incident, which occurred on Thursday afternoon, May 16th, in the São Geraldo neighborhood. Firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze at the residence. The 85-year-old homeowner, who is the suspect's mother-in-law, reported a history of conflicts with the suspect, her daughter-in-law, who resides in the lower level of the same property. The victim also stated she has an active protective order against the suspect. According to the victim's statement to the police, the suspect allegedly made threats shortly before the fire began, which then engulfed the property. The victim's pet dog was unable to escape and died in the fire. The suspect denied involvement but was arrested on the spot due to evidence and the flagrant nature of the crime, after receiving medical attention for smoke inhalation. Her arrest for suspected arson and animal cruelty resulting in death was ratified by the Civil Police, and she remains in custody pending further investigation.
