Woman Arrested in Connection with Death of Civil Police Investigator in Manaus

A woman identified as Mayara Silva da Silva was arrested on Friday, November 24th, in Manaus, suspected of involvement in the death of Civil Police investigator Luciano Carvalho de Senas, 44. She was apprehended in a condominium in the Tarumã neighborhood, located in the West Zone of the capital. According to the Civil Police (PC), Senas died after being shot in the neck and arm during an exchange of gunfire. The incident occurred while police were responding to a drug trafficking operation in the Alvorada neighborhood, located in the Central-West Zone of Manaus. Mayara was reportedly inside a pickup truck that was stopped by police during the operation on Álvaro Maia street. She and a man, identified as Rafael Pereira Feitosa, allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled. Police found five drug tablets inside the pickup. Feitosa remains at large. Security camera footage captured the shooting, which occurred around 10 a.m. The video shows a black pickup truck parked next to a gray car. A person appears to move an object from the pickup to the gray car. A white vehicle, identified as an unmarked police car carrying investigator Senas, then arrived, and the shooting began. A suspect, described as a man in a yellow shirt, was seen falling to the ground, injured and subsequently arrested; his current medical condition is unknown. Investigator Senas was taken to the Alvorada Emergency Care Service (SPA) but succumbed to his injuries. Senas was assigned to the Narcotic Investigation Department (Denarc) and had been an investigator since 2011. He was participating in an anti-drug trafficking operation with fellow officers at the time of the incident. All vehicles involved have undergone forensic examination, and nine-millimeter pistol casings were recovered. The case is currently under investigation.
