Woman Dies in Rollover Crash; Husband Flees Scene in Mato Grosso

A 44-year-old woman, identified as Laudiane Maria dos Santos, died on Sunday, May 5th, after the car she was traveling in overturned on Estrada da Fazenda Imaruí, in the Água Limpa district of Boa Esperança do Norte, Mato Grosso. The driver of the vehicle, identified as the victim's husband, fled the scene before emergency services arrived and has not yet been located. Police were alerted to the accident and found the victim without vital signs at the scene. According to the owner of the farm where the incident occurred, only the couple was in the car. The farm owner reported that the man was driving when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip. The witness stated that immediately after the accident, the driver left the scene without assisting his partner and headed in an unknown direction. Police found beer cans inside the car, which was noted in the police report, but it has not yet been confirmed by forensic examination if the driver had consumed alcohol prior to the crash. The Civil Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident, are attempting to locate the driver, and are determining if there was any criminal liability.
