Woman Fatally Stabbed Four Times by Ex-Partner in São Vicente, Brazil

Paula Santos da Silva, 37, was fatally stabbed four times by her ex-partner, Severino Alves Pereira, 56, in São Vicente, on the coast of São Paulo, Brazil, on July 13. An autopsy report from the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML) revealed that Silva sustained three stab wounds to the neck and one to the abdomen. The neck injuries included perforations to the trachea and laceration of a major blood vessel, while the abdominal wound caused intestinal damage and internal bleeding. The Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) has charged Pereira with qualified femicide, citing the use of methods that hindered the victim's defense and the element of ambush. Surveillance footage captured Silva, bleeding profusely, walking approximately 110 meters and signaling for help before collapsing in front of her apartment building. Pereira, a construction worker, reportedly confessed to the crime, stating he had a habit of carrying a knife and "lost his head" during an argument. He admitted to discarding the murder weapon and washing his hands before being arrested. The defense attorney for Pereira stated they await formal notification of the charges to review the case and present a defense, emphasizing the constitutional right to due process. The couple had a brief relationship, and Pereira allegedly attacked Silva after she ended it.
