Woman Fatally Stabbed in Petrópolis; Ex-Partner Arrested Minutes Later

A woman was fatally stabbed on Monday night, November 27th, in the Corrêas neighborhood of Petrópolis, located in the Serrana region of Rio de Janeiro. Within minutes of the crime, the victim's 37-year-old ex-partner was apprehended by Military Police. Officers found the suspect with blood-covered clothing and injuries to his hands upon their arrival at the scene, responding to a call. Witnesses directed police to the direction the suspect had fled. The suspect reportedly stated that he and the victim had been drinking alcohol and were accompanied by their three-year-old son prior to the incident. He claimed that after leaving the child with relatives, an argument ensued inside their car. The suspect alleged the woman was holding a knife, which he then took from her during the altercation. He admitted to then stabbing the victim multiple times, discarding the knife in a wooded area, and fleeing the scene. The Civil Police will investigate all claims as part of their inquiry. After receiving medical attention for his hand injuries, the man was taken to the 106th Police Station in Itaipava. He was arrested in flagrante delicto for femicide and is currently detained pending judicial proceedings. Authorities also noted that the accused has a prior conviction for rape and was facing charges for bodily harm against a woman.
