Woman Tortured for 8 Days, Held Captive in Minas Gerais by City Hall Employee

A 47-year-old woman was subjected to eight days of torture and captivity in Divinópolis, Minas Gerais, by her husband, an employee of the Municipal Hall. According to lead investigator Francielly Sifuente, the victim was deprived of food, forced to consume crack cocaine, suffered cigarette burns, and endured severe physical and psychological abuse. The delegate described the case as one of the most serious she has encountered, noting the victim experienced nearly all forms of violence except for property crimes. The suspect, a gravedigger, was arrested on June 16th after police responded to a domestic violence report. He has since been indicted for attempted femicide, torture, unlawful imprisonment, dissemination of nudity, and damage. The victim, who has a hearing impairment and had her phone destroyed, was found malnourished and in a state of extreme vulnerability. The motive is believed to be alleged infidelity. The woman attempted to escape but was dragged back, leading to further violence, including an attempted stabbing, before police intervened. The Municipal Hall stated it is preparing legislation to strengthen administrative disciplinary processes for employees indicted for severe crimes, aiming to expedite administrative actions while respecting legal due process.
