Yaoundé Prepares for 51st Francophone Parliamentary Assembly Session

Cameroon is intensifying preparations for the 51st Plenary Session of the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly (APF), scheduled to take place in Yaoundé from July 7 to 12, 2026. A strategic meeting was held on June 22 at the Ministry of External Relations to coordinate efforts between the government and the APF for the event's success. The meeting was co-chaired by the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, and the President of the APF, Honorable Hilarion Etong. Attendees included several officials from the Ministry of External Relations and a parliamentary delegation comprising Senators Davis Samuel Etame Massoma and Samuel Obam Assam, Deputies Lydienne Epoube and Gabriel Fandja, and Bouba Halidou. Discussions focused on harmonizing actions among stakeholders to ensure the smooth running of this significant parliamentary diplomacy gathering. The meeting also highlighted the diplomatic, political, economic, and cultural implications for Cameroon hosting this major Francophone event. The session will bring together parliamentarians from the Francophone world to discuss two main themes: "Multilateralism and State Sovereignty" and "Climate Change, Development, and Francophone Solidarity: What Role for Parliaments in a Changing World?" These discussions are expected to foster reflection on the contemporary challenges facing Francophone states and parliamentary institutions.
