Young man claims mechanical failure caused fatal motorcycle crash in Franca, SP

Miguel Teodoro Nalini, 19, testified to police three months after a motorcycle accident in Franca, São Paulo, that resulted in the death of his girlfriend, Monique Silvestre Ramos, 15. Nalini stated that a mechanical failure in the motorcycle caused him to lose control on a curve, leading to a skid and a collision with a metal guardrail. He claims he attempted to brake and react but was unable to due to the suddenness of the event. The accident occurred on March 23rd in the São José neighborhood. Security footage showed Nalini purchasing beverages shortly before the crash, but he denied consuming alcohol, explaining he was buying drinks for friends and was one of the few with a motorcycle. He admitted to not having a driver's license (CNH). The defense team for Nalini asserts there was no intent to cause harm, that he was not intoxicated, and that purchasing alcohol does not prove consumption. Monique Ramos died instantly from head trauma after being thrown from the motorcycle upon impact with the guardrail. Nalini sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized but has since recovered. The case was initially classified as negligent homicide, but the police investigation may alter this classification. Nalini expressed shock upon learning of his girlfriend's death, stating he did not grasp the accident's severity and initially believed it was a minor incident until informed by medical staff.
