Young Missionaries Embrace Face-to-Face Connection Amidst AI Era

Over 1,500 students from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC) and other Chilean and international universities and schools have commenced their Winter Missions and Work program, organized by Pastoral UC. The initiative spans 52 locations across Chile, from Copiapó to the Los Lagos Region. For ten days, these students will engage directly with communities, visiting homes, conducting workshops, building chapels, and fostering connections through shared life and faith experiences. In an era where algorithms and virtual realities might seem to replace tangible human experiences, these young participants are consciously setting aside their mobile devices. They will prioritize in-person interactions, engaging in face-to-face dialogues and addressing community needs. The program emphasizes that the challenge is not to oppose digital life with physical encounters, but to integrate them effectively. The letter references Pope Leo XIV's encyclical 'Magnifica Humanitas,' which highlights Artificial Intelligence as a valuable tool for serving people and the common good. Through their actions, these student missionaries demonstrate the enduring importance of personal encounters and the indispensable nature of physical presence, dedicating their time to building relationships and bridging divides, thereby embodying the 'Magnificent Humanity' they are part of.
