Young Woman Dies During Boat Trip; Overdose Suspected

Mayane Soares Castello, a 25-year-old woman, died on Saturday, May 25th, while on a boat trip on the Paraguay River in Ladário, Mato Grosso do Sul. The Civil Police are awaiting forensic reports to confirm the cause of death, with an overdose being the primary hypothesis, according to investigating officer Delegate Fillipe Araujo. The incident was reported on Wednesday, May 29th. A man accompanying Castello alerted the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) after she became ill during the excursion. Rescue teams found the boat docked at a local port, but Mayane was already deceased upon their arrival. Initial investigations by Delegate Araujo and the Scientific Forensics team have not revealed any signs of femicide or other violent crimes. A police inquiry was opened on Monday, May 27th. Delegate Araujo stated that while no evidence of a crime has emerged, the investigation is ongoing to definitively rule out all possibilities. Current findings strongly suggest a non-criminal cause of death. The Civil Police have requested detailed information from Samu regarding their response to the incident. Witnesses have been interviewed, security camera footage has been seized, and a necropsy was performed. Although the final report is pending, preliminary information points away from foul play, with an overdose being a likely cause. A toxicology test on a blood sample from the victim is also underway to confirm this or identify an alternative non-criminal cause.
